Supported input formats

Synthezia’s import picker presents a bounded set of common audio and video extensions and sends the selected file through FFmpeg conversion. The repository does not contain a manually verified container-and-codec matrix for the distributed FFmpeg build. This documentation therefore does not publish a supported input-format list.

An extension does not identify the codec, stream layout, corruption state, DRM, or other media characteristics that determine whether conversion succeeds. FFmpeg’s theoretical decoder coverage is also not a Synthezia support commitment.

  1. Keep the original source file.
  2. Import a representative non-sensitive sample.
  3. If conversion fails, preserve the exact error and try a known-good local WAV only to isolate the source-media problem.
  4. Record a reproducible format or codec failure for validation rather than assuming the extension is unsupported everywhere.
